dc.description.abstract | This study embarks on a nuanced exploration of the poetic diction and philosophical essence embedded within the verses of R. Ramachandran, an eminent figure in the realm of modern Malayalam poetry. It meticulously situates his poetic corpus within the dual context of his personal experiences and his journey as a poet, aiming to discern how these spheres influence and manifest within his work. Anchored in the principles of stylistics, the methodology of this study is designed to dissect the linguistic and stylistic elements of Ramachandran's poetry, thereby unveiling the symbiotic relationship between the poet's life and his literary creativity. The dissertation unfolds across five meticulously structured chapters, each dedicated to unraveling distinct facets of stylistic analysis within the poetic realm of R. Ramachandran. The first chapter serves as an entry point into the expansive field of stylistics, delineating its core principles, methodologies, and practical implications. It navigates through the diverse stylistic paradigms, including linguistic, literary, and cognitive approaches, while elucidating stylistics' interdisciplinary connections with linguistics, literary criticism, and psychology. In the second chapter, the focus shifts to the rich literary tapestry that informs R. Ramachandran's poetic oeuvre. It surveys the pivotal literary currents and influences that have carved his artistic sensibilities, alongside a critical evaluation of his poetry’s reception within literary circles.Delving into the essence of Ramachandran’s poetic expression, the third chapter scrutinizes the linguistic and stylistic elements that hallmark his poetry, utilizing the analytical lens of stylistics. The discourse encompasses an examination of sound patterns, rhythm, imagery, and metaphorical language, probing their interconnectedness with the thematic core of his work. The fourth chapter embarks on an exploration of Ramachandran’s poetic ethos, contextualized within the panorama of philosophical thought. It illuminates the philosophical influences permeating his poetry and the symbiosis between his lyrical motifs and the quintessential themes of Indian philosophical discourse. Ramachandran's poetry is marked by a profound sense of nihilism and existential turmoil, setting it apart from the works of his contemporaries. This distinctive quality of his verse emerges from a unique fusion of Western existential thought and the ancient Upanishadic philosophy. Through this synthesis, Ramachandran's poems navigate the depths of human existence, blending existential queries with the metaphysical insights of the Upanishads, thereby offering a nuanced perspective on the human condition that transcends cultural and philosophical boundaries.Concluding the dissertation, the last chapter encapsulates the research findings and contemplates their broader implications for the domain of stylistics and the appreciation of R. Ramachandran’s poetic legacy. | en_US |
