Human values in the short stories of Jamal Fayez
Abstract
The writer Jamal Fayez Al-Saeed is a renowned author from the state of Qatar in the fields of short stories and novels in contemporary Arabic world. He addresses various issues in his collections, attempting to promote human values in society through his stories. The researcher discusses some general issues related to Qatari short stories and Jamal Fayez's particular short stories in this study.The study includes an introduction, five units and a conclusion. The introduction provides simple introduction to the research topic, analysis of the title, reasons for choosing the topic, previous studies, importance of the research, research problem, research plan and acknowledgments.The first unit revolves around 'Human Values in Arabic Literature: A Brief Overview'. This unit has three chapters: The concept of human values, sources of human values and the importance of human values in literature. The second unit focuses on 'Social, Economic and Cultural Diversity' in Qatar. It consists of three chapters: Social diversity, cultural diversity and economic diversity.The third unit, titled 'Features of Qatari Short Stories', contains three chapters, including the evolution of the short story in Qatar, famous authors in Qatari short stories and the features of Qatari short stories. The fourth unit explores 'Jamal Fayez Al-Saeed' in four chapters: His birth and upbringing, his academic and professional life, his literary impact and his approach and features in his stories.The fifth unit is a 'Study on Human Values in Jamal Fayez's Stories.' This unit highlights the
core research in its seven chapters: filial piety, parents' loyalty to their children, love and affection, compassion among people, justice and equality, cooperation and coexistence, and security and safety.
Prominent results of this study include:
• Literature plays a crucial role in instilling values in human beings, with values being acombination of religion, reason, society and culture.
• Jamal Fayez's stories serve as a comprehensive call to defend human values and noble traditions in Qatar, excelling in using stories to address and promote these values for the nation's enlightenment.
• Jamal Fayez addresses essential human values related to religion, ethics and society, including filial piety, parents' loyalty to their children, love and affection, compassion among people, justice and equality, security and safety, cooperation, and coexistence.
• Human values undergo negative changes with economic development, shifting from poverty to wealth, leading to a diminished appreciation for the elderly and their ailments, indicating a shift in human values with the dominance of materialism.
The researcher does not claim perfection for this study under the title 'Human Values in the Short stories of Jamal Fayez'.' It is a modest study that presents the mentioned results on the subject .
